91勛圖厙 Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo to perform Friday, April 7, featuring Sharel Cassity

91勛圖厙 Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will perform on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature the great young saxophonist Sharel Cassity. In addition, the concert will celebrate the three 91勛圖厙 of Wooster graduating seniors in the ensemble: saxophonist Rob Stark, trumpeter Ash Arons, and trumpeter Katie Fleig. Senior vocalist Linat Westreich will also be featured with both the Jazz Combo and the Jazz Ensemble.

Listed as a Rising Star Alto Saxophone in Downbeat Magazine for the past 12 years, Cassity has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and The Colber Show, and is in the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Cassity has worked with multi-Grammy Award-winning artist Jennifer Hudson and other notable artists, including Natalie Merchant, Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Ruben Blades, and DJ Logic, among others.

As a band leader, Cassitys five albums have received top-rated reviews in publications like the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Jazz Times, Jazziz, Downbeat & American Indian News, and Saxophone Journal. Cassity runs her record label, Relsha Music, and directs the educational program Jazz Up.

Selected to attendThe Juilliard Schoolunder full scholarship for a Masters in Music, Sharel earned her BFA from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in 2005.

The song list for the concert includes titles like Almost Like Being in Love, Night and Day, Its All Right With Me, Cherokee, Say What, and Is That So?
